    Refined physical properties and g',r',i',z',J,H,K transmission spectrum of WASP-23b from the ground

    Multi-band observations of planetary transits using the telescope defocus technique may yield high-quality light curves suitable for refining the physical properties of exoplanets even with small or medium size telescopes. Such observations can be used to construct a broad-band transmission spectrum of transiting planets and search for the presence of strong absorbers. We have thoroughly characterised the orbital ephemeris and physical properties of the transiting planet and host star in the WASP-23b system, constructed a broad-band transmission spectrum of WASP-23b and performed a comparative analysis with theoretical models of hot Jupiters. We observed a complete transit of WASP-23b in seven bands simultaneously, using the GROND instrument on the MPG/ESO 2.2m telescope at La Silla Observatory and telescope defocussing. The optical data were taken in the Sloan g',r',i' and z' bands. The resulting light curves are of high quality, with a root-mean-square scatter of the residual as low as 330ppm in the z'-band, with a cadence of 90s. Near-infrared data were obtained in the JHK bands. We performed MCMC analysis of our photometry plus existing radial velocity data to refine measurements of the ephemeris and physical properties of the WASP-23. We constructed a broad-band transmission spectrum of WASP-23b and compared it with a theoretical transmission spectrum of a Hot Jupiter. We measured the central transit time with a precision about 8s. From this and earlier observations we obtain an orbital period of P=2.9444300+/-0.0000011d. Our analysis also yielded a larger radius and mass for the planet (Rp=1.067+0.045-0.038 RJup and, Mp=0.917+0.040-0.039MJup). The transmission spectrum is marginally flat, given the limited precision of the measurements for the planet radius and poor spectral resolution of the data.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysic

    Proportional sampling strategy: A compendium and some insights

    There have been numerous studies on the effectiveness of partition and random testing. In particular, the proportional sampling (PS) strategy has been proved, under certain conditions, to be the only form of partition testing that outperforms random testing regardless of where the failure-causing inputs are. This paper provides an integrated synthesis and overview of our recent studies on the PS strategy and its related work.     Testing of large number multiplication functions in cryptographic systems

    Integer multiplication is one of the fundamental functions in cryptographic systems. Although much research has already been done on the testing of multiplication functions, most does not meet the need of cryptographic systems, where very large numbers are involved. Others provide only probabilistic algorithms. In this paper we propose an efficient deterministic algorithm for verifying large number multiplications in cryptographic systems. A deterministic oracle for large integer multiplication functions will result. In addition, our method can also be used to verify selected segments of digits in the product of two numbers.published_or_final_versio

    Transformation of UML interaction diagrams into contract specifications for object-oriented testing

    Testing is an important means to ensure the quality of software systems. Contract specification can be used to formally specify the cluster level of object-oriented software, which can then be tested using TACCLE, an advanced methodology for object-oriented testing. The use of formal specifications as a testing base has many advantages. However, such specifications are not easily understood and therefore not widely used in the software industry. On the other hand, UML, a semi-formal modeling language, is becoming increasingly popular and widely accepted. In particular, UML interaction diagrams specify the dynamic, interacting behavior among the objects of an object-oriented system. If the transformation of UML interaction diagrams into Contract specifications can be automated, the TACCLE methodology can be applied directly to test object-oriented software at the cluster level. In this paper, a method to transform UML interaction diagrams into Contract specifications is proposed based on the UML meta-model.     A choice relation framework for supporting category-partition test case generation

    We describe in this paper a choice relation framework for supporting category-partition test case generation. We capture the constraints among various values (or ranges of values) of the parameters and environment conditions identified from the specification, known formally as choices. We express these constraints in terms of relations among choices and combinations of choices, known formally as test frames. We propose a theoretical backbone and techniques for consistency checks and automatic deductions of relations. Based on the theory, algorithms have been developed for generating test frames from the relations. These test frames can then be used as the basis for generating test cases. Our algorithms take into consideration the resource constraints specified by software testers, thus maintaining the effectiveness of the test frames (and hence test cases) generated.published_or_final_versio
